Fuel Identification
Legislation is in place in some countries to dye fuels for identification purposes.
Dyes can be used so that different grades of fuel can be easily visually identified both at the refinery and by consumers at the petrol pumps. Dyes are used to identify leaded, unleaded and leaded replacement fuels or different octane level gasoline in countries such as South Africa, Japan, Thailand and Australia.
Dyes are also often used by lubricant manufacturers to differentiate one type of lube oil from another.
- > Oil companies can use dyes to market and differentiate premium grades of fuel.
> Easy identification of fuels for customers at petrol station, for example, to differentiate different octane levels.
> Safe visual identification at refinery.
