REACH

REACH, the new European Union legislation for the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals, is intended to protect human health and the environment from potential risks arising from the use of chemicals. It became law on 1st June 2007 and its implementation will take 11 years to complete. It is expected that during this time approximately 30,000 chemicals will have been registered and characterised according to strict guidelines.

As a manufacturer of specialty chemicals and dyes, John Hogg has always been committed to ensuring that its products are manufactured and used as safely as possible. Since the implementation of REACH we have been working hard to ensure all of our raw materials and products were pre-registered by the December 2008 deadline.

We have consulted closely with both our suppliers and European customers and established main points of contact. We have assurances from our suppliers that they are aware of their obligations under REACH and that the materials we buy shall continue to be available in the quality we need. From customers we shall be asking for information on the applications and methods of handling employed, so that we can compile the necessary documentation to support them in the future.

Our policy has been to pre-register all of our existing products with the intention of carrying them forward to registration at the appropriate time. However, eventual successful registration will depend on many factors, some of which are not under our control. Any product which we supply under contract to our customers will be supported at least for the duration of the contract.

We are ensuring that all our activities are compatible with the guidelines of the British Chemical Industries Association.
